Chill-B-Prep
LANOSENSE Chill-B-Prep is a formulation with 4 active ingredients that target the cause and provides specific symptomatic relief of a common condition known as Chilblains. (Wintershande /Wintersvoete) in Afrikaans.
By targeting the micro-circulation of the affected areas, and by soothing painful and dry hands and feet, healing take place when oxygen and nutrient supply is restored to compromised and damaged tissue due to decreased circulation.
What are chillblains?

Chilblains are small, often blistering lesions caused by the inflammation of tiny blood vessels after exposure to cold air. They are often painful and tend to affect the skin of hands and feet, resulting in extremities that are typically ice cold to the touch. This is the result of small blood vessels near the surface of the skin contracting, that results in starvation of the upper skin layer of blood supply and consequently oxygen and nutrients. Failure to treat the tell-tale signs in time may lead to blister formation and extremely painful chilblains.
The ingredients in Chill-B-Prep support healing
The following ingredients work together to support healing:
Camphor: Used topically to increase local blood flow and as a “counterirritant,” which reduces pain and swelling caused by irritation.
Menthol: In small concentrations menthol depresses cutaneous sensory receptors, while at higher concentrations, it stimulates sensory receptors and thus acts as a counter-irritant. It is also frequently found in a variety of topical pain relief medications because of its local anaesthetic properties.
Individual benefits of Vitamin B3 ( Niacinamide): (Note: the manufacturer of LANOSENSE Chill-B-Prep does not promote the product for all these benefits of Niacinamide even though the facts are well documented)
• Immunity. Niacinamide helps build keratin, a type of protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy.
• Lipid barrier. Niacinamide can help your skin grow a ceramide (lipid) barrier, which can, in turn, help retain moisture. This is beneficial for all skin types, especially if you have eczema or mature skin.
• Minimizes redness and blotchiness. Niacinamide reduces inflammation, which may help ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.
• Minimizes pore appearance. Keeping skin smooth and moisturized may have a secondary benefit — a natural reduction in pore size over time.
• Regulates oil. The benefits of moisture retention aren’t just for those with dry skin types. Niacinamide can also help regulate the amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce and prevent your glands from going into overdrive.
• Protects against sun damage. Niacinamide can concurrently rebuild healthy skin cells while also protecting them from damage caused by ultraviolet rays.
• Treats hyperpigmentation. Some research has found 5 percent niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. Benefits were seen after four weeks, but not beyond two months. This benefit may be due to increased collagen production.
Topical Niacinamide increases free fatty acid ceramide levels in the skin, stimulates micro-circulation in the dermis, and prevents the skin from losing water. It also increases protein synthesis (e.g. keratin), raises intracellular NADP levels, and speeds up the differentiation of keratinocytes.
• Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. Research has also found that the same concentration was helpful in reducing some signs of sun damage associated with aging. This includes fine lines and wrinkles.
• Protects against oxidative stress. Niacinamide helps build cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins.
Lanolin: Lanolin is naturally produced by sheep to protect their wool. Because the properties of Lanolin are similar to those of the sebum (oil) secreted by human skin, it is a popular ingredient in moisturizers, hair care products, and soaps. It is also widely promoted as a natural remedy for sore nipples due to breastfeeding.
Lanolin may also act as a vehicle to “carry” other active ingredients into the skin and by doing so, enhance their effect.
The hypoallergenic, soothing, and moisturizing nature of Lanolin makes it useful for eczema and other dry skin conditions.
Lanolin in some animal studies, topically applied to skin wounds significantly increased new skin growth thus promoting healing.

Additional uses for Chill-B-Prep
Due to the nature of the formulation and the special character of Lanolin combined with other emollients, it is useful in the treatment of other dry skin conditions like certain dry eczema, psoriasis and dry and cracked skin areas like hands, feet and elbows.
It may also be very useful if used as a massage cream for the prevention of pressure/bed sores. When massaged into the high risk areas where bed sores are most likely to form, blood flow is stimulated both by massaging the area as well as the action of Niacinamide in the formula. The anti-inflammatory action helps to prevent lesions caused by prolonged localised pressure that results in necrosis of tissue.
Directions for use
LANOSENSE Chill-B-Prep should be applied at the first signs of symptoms associated with chilblains.
Massage a small amount into the affected area/s 2-3 times a day until almost completely absorbed.
Skin may feel slightly fatty after application, that normalises after a few minutes as the Lanolin and other ingredients are fully absorbed.
A slight tingle to a prominent warm feeling may be experienced after application due to the increase in local blood circulation.
Care should be taken when applied to the other areas which may or may not be sensitive to any of the ingredients.
When intended to moisturise and treat dry, cracked skin like heels or elbows, more liberal application can be useful, especially if covered overnight under some form of occlusion.
When intended for prevention of pressure/bed sores, an adequate amount can be used to effectively massage the potential risk area 2-3 times a day to increase blood flow and prevent necrosis of pressure spots. DO NOT use on an open wound. Where skin is already compromised, massage the surrounding area/s gently as part of the rehabilitation process of a healing bed sore.
